Antonio Barra TorresHe is the former director of Brazil's National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) and holds a degree in medicine.,In Rio de JaneiroMarcílio Dias Naval Hospital (HNMD) completed residency training in vascular and endovascular surgery. In July 2019, he was approved by the Brazilian Senate to serve as Director of Anvisa. In October 2020, he was confirmed as Director of Anvisa. In March 2023, he was appointed Second Vice-Chair of the International Coalition of Medicines Regulatory Authorities (ICMRA).

Under his leadership, the products regulated by Anvisa account for approximately 23% of Brazil's GDP. The text emphasizes the need to expand Anvisa's workforce through public tenders to meet service demands and support the medical and scientific communities, particularly in the release of research materials and the approval of clinical trials and pharmaceuticals.

He actively participated in international regulatory cooperation by engaging in forums such as ICH and PIC/S. This helped Anvisa familiarize itself with best practices and build trust with other regulatory agencies, playing a key role in positioning Anvisa as a global reference for health regulation.
